امام علی عليه السلام هنگامى كه مى خواست رسول خدا صلي الله عليه وآله را به خاك بسپارد در كنار قبر آن حضرت چنين عرضه داشت:
صبر و شكيبايى زيباست ولى نه درباره تو و جزع و بى تابى زشت است اما نه بر فراق تو.
مصيبت وفات تو بسيار سنگين و هر مصيبتى پيش از تو و بعد از تو در برابر آن كوچك و حقير
